The primary objective of Gifted Minds International School Library:

To cultivate good habit of reading storybooks from very young is the key foundation to fostering  learning, creativity and understanding the world through tales.

In addition, to provide opportunities for students to have easy access to educational resources.

We can identify a child’s phase of development by observing that the child is exhibiting all the key indicators of a phase whilst reading a book.

Below is a list of 6 phases:

Phase 1. Role play reading- Reconstruct stories for themselves and a natural interest in books and the language of print

Phase 2. Expereintial Reading- Uses memory of familiar texts

Phase 3. Early Reading- May read unfamiliar texts slowly and deliberately

Phase 4. Transitional Reading- Beginning to integrate different reading strategies

Phase 5. Independent Reading- Reading is purposeful and automatic

Phase 6. Advanced Reading- Greater ability to make connections between current  knowledge and what is new


Reading Books Promotes:

*exposure to different genre of books and languages

*exposure to texts & pictorials

*identifying and recognizing vocabularies and its meanings

*increase word count and vocabularies

*making links to own prior knowledge experiences through words, pictorial and visual cues

*family bonding time between child & parent
